Exodus 14:5-14
“When You’re Caught Between the Sea and the Soldiers”
Life sometimes presses us into tight places, just like Israel at the Red Sea. Exodus 14 reminds us that God’s people have stood in overwhelming moments before, and God has always been faithful.
After delivering Israel from centuries of slavery, God led them toward the Red Sea. What looked like a strange detour was actually divine strategy. But when Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his elite chariots after them, Israel suddenly found themselves trapped between the sea and the soldiers.
Fear rose quickly. Anxiety turned into accusation. Bondage even started to look safer than freedom. But Moses spoke a better word: “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today.”
Fear distorts reality. It magnifies the problem and minimizes God. But God invites us into a different posture, standing still, not in passivity but in trust.
Standing still means:
- Stop trying to fix what you cannot fix.
- Stop rehearsing worst‑case scenarios.
- Stop scrambling for human solutions to divine problems.
It’s admitting, “This one is too big for me. I need to give it to God.”
Moses assured Israel that God would rescue them in a way they could never imagine, and He did. The God who opened a path where none existed is the same God who opens ways for us today. The God who turned a barrier into a highway can turn your obstacle into testimony.
Exodus 14:14 says, “The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” This moment is a small picture of the gospel:
- God fights for the helpless.
- God rescues the trapped.
- God saves those who cannot save themselves.
Worrying is simply trying to fight battles God has already claimed as His own.
So, if you’re overwhelmed today, stand still. If fear has crept in, lift your eyes. If you’re exhausted from fighting battles too big for you, let the Lord fight for you.
The same God who rescued Israel is the same God who can open a way for you. His power has not weakened. His love has not faded.
Stand still. Trust God. Watch God work.

Lord, calm our hearts today. When we feel pressed in or overwhelmed, teach us to stand still and trust You. Fight the battles that are too big for us and open a way where we cannot see one. Help us rest in Your strength, Your love, and Your faithfulness.

(UPDATE) The following is the pricing for our trip to the Ark Encounter on September 11–12:
