2 Corinthians 8:1-7 New Living Translation
A Call to Generous Giving
1 Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. 2 They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.
3 For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will. 4 They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. 5 They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.
6 So we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of giving. 7 Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.
Prayer
Set us free, O God, from the bondage of our sins, and give us the liberty of that abundant life which you have made known to us in your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Black History Month is an annual celebration in February that honors the achievements, contributions, and history of Black people in the United States and around the world. It is a time to recognize both the struggles and triumphs of Black individuals, as well as their pivotal role in shaping society.
The observance began in 1926 when historian Carter G. Woodson established “Negro History Week.” He chose the second week of February to honor the birthdays of two influential figures: President Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass.
Alice H. Parker
An African American inventor, revolutionized home heating with her 1919 patent for a natural gas-powered furnace. Frustrated by the inefficiency of fireplaces in her Morristown, New Jersey home, she designed the first system that used natural gas and featured individually controlled air ducts for even heat distribution. Her system allowed for “zone heating,” where different rooms could maintain different temperatures. Parker’s invention laid the foundation for modern forced-air heating systems, making her a pioneer in improving -home comfort and energy efficiency.
