Edition 2025, Volume 12 – Sermon “God’s Love for Us”

Ephesians 1:3-8 New Living Translation

Spiritual Blessings

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

 Prayer

Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Announcements

Last Wednesday (Ash Wednesday) officially started the season of Lent. Lent is a season of forty days (not counting Sundays) that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. The word “Lent” comes from the Anglo-Saxon term lencten, meaning “spring.” The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan and preparing to begin His ministry.

Lent is a time for self-examination and reflection. It involves praying, fasting (intentionally withholding something you would normally partake in—such as food—for the purpose of creating space in your life for the presence of Jesus), and giving, all in preparation for the coming of Easter.

What are you giving up this Lent to create more space for the presence of Jesus Christ in your life?
