1 Peter 2:9-12 (NLT)
As our nation celebrates 250 years of independence, this week invites us to remember a deeper identity — the one given to us in Christ. Peter writes in 1 Peter 2:9–12 that believers are “a chosen people, royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession.” We live in America, but we belong to God’s Kingdom.
Paul reinforces this in Philippians 3:20, declaring: “We are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives.” Our truest allegiance is not to a flag or a culture, but to a King, the King of Kings.
As citizens of heaven, our lives should reflect the character of that Kingdom:
o Practicing mercy in a world drawn to outrage.
o Practicing holiness in a culture of compromise.
o Practicing witness where silence feels easier.
o Practicing compassion in a world growing cold.
Peter says our purpose is to “show others the goodness of God.” We do this through our words, our conduct, our relationships, and our responses to pressure and disagreement.
So, as you move through your week, at work, at home, in your neighborhood, remember who you are: chosen, royal, holy, and God’s own people. You walk the streets of America, but your citizenship is in heaven. You live in this earthly nation, but you belong to a Kingdom that cannot be shaken.
Go with confidence, clarity, and purpose. And may others see, through you, the goodness of the King you serve.

Weekly Prayer
Lord, our Father,
As we enter this new week, remind us that our true citizenship is in heaven, where Christ our King lives.
Help us walk as Your chosen, holy people, showing Your goodness in our words, our actions, and our relationships.
Fill us with mercy, holiness, witness, and compassion so that others may see Your light through us.
Strengthen us to live faithfully in this nation while belonging fully to Yours.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Interested in Visiting the Ark Encounter?: In the interest of time, we are adjusting our late‑summer trip. We will now be visiting the Ark Encounter only on September 11–12. We will arrive in Kentucky on Friday night (Sept. 11), spend Saturday (Sept. 12) exploring the Ark, and return home Saturday evening after dinner.
We need a preliminary head count so we can reserve hotel rooms and transportation. If you are interested in being part of this weekend’s experience, please let Pam M. or Tammy O. know.
